Hello my dA friends I haz returned once again. :3 this is one of the many thing I've been working on during my time off here. I came up with the idea in January, didn't start until February, and finished it on the 13th. This thing took longer than it needed to! >.< What really held me up with the comic is this Pokemon-related thing that kept me horrified in Feb. for a while. DX I rather not talk about it...e_e The original concept for this was just gonna have Meowth, Pikachu, and Ash, but I wanted to add more clarity and stuff to it.

Well anyway, yeah, I got back into Pokemon after looking at some fanart. I always thought of Pikachu as a boy; either I just assumed it or someone told me, but now I think of it as a tomboyish girl I at first thought it was weird that the artists I saw would think of Pikachu being a girl, but when I watched some old movie shorts, I was able to see it being that gender.

Now before I get the: "lol-this-is-funny-but-Pikachu's-really-a-boy". comments, I have been researching (yes researching x3) the topic and I would like to share my results. Hopefully the pokeball boarder will grab the attention of Description Skippers. If you can't read all of it, please at least read some of it. I really wanna get my point across.

PIKACHU: THE GREAT GENDER DEBATE!
Bum, bum, bum, da, dum!

Pikachu’s gender is actually unconfirmed. It’s voice actress Ikue Ootani, and Satoshi Tajiri said that they have not yet decided it’s gender. Therefore meaning there’s a possibility of it being a female. If you believe Pikachu has no chance of being female because of the keywords: always acted masculine, Buneary, and tail, I advise you to read the following.

1. Oh goodness. Not THIS again. I’m gonna say this once and for all: Pikachu is 100% MALE. HE has never acted feminine…ever.

--In the old episodes, Pikachu had more of a motherly/sisterly relationship with Togepi than a fatherly/brotherly. The same with other young Pokemon like the Pichu Bros. and Hapinny

If Pikachu had no possibility being a girl, why would they bother to give it female roles?

2. Pikachu isn’t a girl because it doesn’t have an indent on its tail
Please…STOP USING THIS TO BACK UP PIKACHU BEING MALE! Pikachu is from the KANTO region. Not SINNOH. :/ Those differences don’t apply to the previous regions. Even if Pikachu was male, it wouldn’t be because of its tail, it would be because Pikachu’s design was based of the original design of the species.

The proof for my statement is in Ash’s Aipom. Aipom has been confirmed a girl; and it’s not because she wore a dress in “Steamboat Willies!”. (Clothing doesn’t always determine gender-->[link] [link] ) It’s because it was verbally stated by May and Dawn in the Japanese version. May said “Aipom is a girl after all, isn't she?” and Dawn said Aipom was a girl who liked contests. According to DP, male Aipoms have short cowlicks--> [link]

Like Pikachu, her design was also based of the original design for her species. If the differences really did count, she would have been a boy.

3. Dawn’s Buneary has a crush on Pikachu and Dawn has even confirmed it to being a girl. So that means Pikachu’s a guy.
Actually, Buneary’s gender is unconfirmed as well. Buneary has a possibility of being male no matter how girly it may act. As long as its gender isn’t confirmed it’s still possible. For all we know, boy Bunearys could be in the same catagory as male Jigglypuffs, Wigglytuffs, Bellossoms, and Clefairys: girly-acting regardless of their true gender. This also goes for other manly looking Pokemon who can be female: masculine-acting regardless of their true genders. There are female Machokes but we wouldn’t be able to tell them from the males. They all act and look exactly the same.

Despite the fact that Buneary’s gender isn’t confirmed, for some reason they dub has confirmed it as a female.

Or something like that…(why couldn’t she have said “you two”!? it would have worked just as well. >_< )

When Ikue Ootani said Pikachu’s gender was undecided, she said that in 2006, the year DP came out in Japan. It wouldn't make sense to confirm Buneary's gender and not confirm Pikachu's…

In Conclusion
There’s nothing wrong about thinking Pikachu’s a boy and Buneary’s a girl (That’s your personally opinion) I’m just saying it’s not right to bash other for thinking the opposite since it’s not canon. *There is no actually proof for them being either gender. The only proof we have is the possibility of them being whichever. For Pikachu, we have male AND female hints.* Unless their genders are officially announced or verbally stated in the original version like Aipom, we can say that they are those genders for sure.

Case closed
